Learning journeys: Life-changing adult higher education
These stories are the reason that Leicester Vaughan College was created. In their own words, former Vaughan College and Vaughan Centre students share their learning journeys. Their stories make clear the transforming power of the opportunity to study later in life. The aim of LVC is to reinstate this opportunity.
The ‘Vaughan Tradition’ was distinctive. It emphasised collegiality in a way which had a lasting impact on staff and students. LVC aims to continue this distinctive experience and to enhance it through a cooperative setting.
Former students describe the challenges they had to overcome in order to begin their studies. Their learning journeys describe the knowledge they gained and the skills they developed. They share what they have done since completing their Vaughan degree. Their stories show how access to adult education changes more than individual lives. Mature students contribute to communities as scholars, workers and volunteers.

Pamela Humphreys studied for the OU and in the Vaughan Centre for Lifelong Learning. She describes her experiences and what she has done since she completed her degree in Humanities and Arts.
A former Vaughan BA Humanities student writes of how studying at Vaughan on the BA in Humanities changed her life and resulted in the successful completion of an MA and doctorate.
